Winemaker Notes
Golden apple, poached pear, and creme brulee aromas over layers of creamy oak lead to a rich mouthfeel with honey and graham cracker flavors and fresh underlying acidity. The balanced midpalate lasts through the finish, with quince, custard, and baked apple flavors.
Vineyard Notes
Our Reserve wines are the result of a careful blend of individual lots from meticulously farmed sections of some of the very best vineyards in Sonoma County. Created in our small lot Artisan Cellar, Winemaker Justin Seidenfeld employs techniques such as cluster pre-sorting and extended maceration. With small tanks and equipment sized for the most discriminating vineyard selection process, our cellar is state-of-the-art and represents the Klein family commitment to producing the finest wines possible
Production Notes
The 2021 vintage was mild and dry. Seasonable weather made for pleasant spring and summer days. Under the ideal ripening conditions, we predicted an early harvest. But Mother Nature had other plans and as we checked berry sugars in the late summer the blocks seemed to need a little more time to ripen than originally predicted. The old Wente clone Chardonnay was planted on the famed St. George rootstock in 1977 in our Shiloh vineyard, up against the foothills of the Mayacamas mountain range that rise just to the east. It yielded 2 tons per acre this harvest, far less than the average for Chardonnay in the Russian River Valley.
